Elixir is EPiC Production's theatre show for Melbourne Fringe 2002.
Elixir
is an original contemporary three act play based on the upcoming published
book "Elixir" by award winning Melbourne poet and writer , Ali
Alizadeh. Ali is currently finishing his PhD in Professional writing.
Elixir
is the tale of a journey through the mezzanines of the contemporary Australian
culture. Told from the point of view of a recent migrant, this journey interweaves
the themes of youth suicide, racism, economic rationalism and substance
and sexual abuse with the hero's own past as an Iranian living during the
Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. Confronting, at times darkly humorous
and, ultimately, a quest for survival and peace, Elixir
is the result of the author's post-graduate research in the fields of epic
poetry, psychoanalysis and history. The image of the 'Elixir'
- the drink of life - is inspired by the poetry of the medieval mystics
who also yearned for endurance and harmony in a world of anger and brutality.
The team is consisted of Ali Alizadeh (writer, co-director), Ross Stewart (producer, publicity, sound), Tanja Beer (Director), Carlo San Giorgio (Actor), Simon Mallory (Actor), Belinda Kirwan (Actor), Micky Morris (Stage Manager, Publicity) and Nathan Dillon (Promotions).
